It seems counterintuitive to be thinking of all things nocturnal. Life In The Dark (July 13 to January 6 2019, South Kensington, London; nhm.ac.uk) focuses on those creatures who come out after sundown or live in the darkest recesses of the ocean like bats, anglerfish, the wonderfully named vampire squid and cave crocodiles (which are orange). This is, excuse the pun, casting new light on the seldom seen. If you prefer to be somewhere where there’s more vitamin D on offer, the city-centric outdoor summer festival season rumbles on.
