Perseus the Greek Hero, is a compact Northern Hemisphere constellation. It sits southeast of Cassiopeia and east of Andromeda, two constellations linked to Perseus in mythology. Cepheus and Cassiopeia were king and queen of Ethiopia. Andromeda was their daughter. Cassiopeia claimed Andromeda was more beautiful than the Nereid sea nymphs, a declaration which angered sea god Poseidon. In retribution he sent floods and the sea monster Cetus to ravage the Ethiopian coast. To appease Poseidon, Andromeda was chained to a rock as a sacrifice to Cetus. Riding the flying horse Pegasus, Perseus went on a mission to cut off the head of the Gorgon Medusa, whose stare turned any living creature to stone. Mission successful, Perseus used the head to turn Cetus to stone, rescuing Andromeda and eventually marrying her.…
