A Memory I thought I was in love once,I was young. I rode my bikeTo her house and imaginedMy declaration of love would beEnough. I left my bike on the grassOf her front yard, but don’t rememberAnything after that. It’s been 50 years.We had seen Umbrellas of CherbourgA few nights beforeAnd afterwards had young sex,Which is also no longer in my memory.I remember she was very pretty,And had red hair. State of Play Nothing here to report, of course.I could say somethingthat springs to mindabout dying, but think I won’t. There’s a tentative, standoffishmoon over the BrooklynBridge at this moment,the lights of helicopters and water taxis, the muted murmur of their motors offair and water, throughthe glass where I live,some off-season fireworksin Brooklyn somewhere and an old-fashioned Italianballad (Non ho l’età) playingon my Bluetooth device that…
