Whoopie!

Holler if you hear us! These cute cake-meets-cookie confections are sweet enough to shout about.

It’s hard not to let out a cheer when biting into these not-quite-cake, not-quite-cookie confections. While it isn’t clear exactly where the hand-held dessert originated, it’s thought that bakers in New England and Pennsylvania invented them by putting excess cake batter and frosting to good use. They’d send them off to work with their husbands, who, upon discovering the treats in their lunch pails, exclaimed “Whoopie!” And since this recipe’s first appearance in Taste of Home in fall of 1993, readers have been shouting the same.
