A Sweetheart Deal
What a sweet deal! That is the theme and the emphasis of this Christmas book. In this book, you will encounter again and again, God's incredible offer in the unspeakable gift of His only begotten Son. When Gabriel said to Mary, "You shall call His name JESUS, for He will save His people from their sins" (Matt. 1:21), that was, and is, the sweetest deal that has been and will ever be given to sinful men and women. Luke records the essence of this stupendous news of the angel this way: "Behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy which will be to all people" (Luke 2:10). That message of the angel is the true spirit and meaning of the Christmas story. In it is God's sweetheart deal of His incredible offer to you and me--the unspeakable gift of His only begotten Son. Isaiah, the prophet, also speaks of this marvelous gift of God to man: "For unto us a Child is born. Unto us a Son is given. And the government will be upon His shoulder. And His name will be called Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of peace" (Isaiah 9:6). How sweet a deal is this!
Christmas is a most wonderful time. There is no other time of year that gladdens our hearts like the Christmas season. Even those who make no pretense at following Jesus will readily admit that this time of year is the most joyful, the most cheerful. It is all about the birth of the Christ child. He is the reason for the season. Millions of men and women, boys and girls, celebrate His birth with great joy.
