VII-VI a.C. Primi testi in scrittura demotica, a carattere amministrativo. 394 d.C. Ultima iscrizione geroglifica, ritrovata a File, dedicata a Mandulis. 452 d.C. Sempre nel tempio di File viene inciso l’ultimo testo in demotico. Gli inizi della scrittura geroglifica risalgono alla nascita della civiltà egizia, alla fine del IV millennio a.C.
