LA FINE DELLA MONARCHIA A ROMA Gli antichi romani evitavano, se possibile, di passare per la via che collegava il monte Oppio all'Esquilino, corrispondente oggi alla scalinata che da via Cavour porta a San Pietro in Vincoli. Si chiamava vicus Orbius, o Urbius, finché una donna, oltre mezzo millennio prima di Cristo, non vi passò con il proprio carro sopra il cadavere del padre, cambiando il nome della strada del misfatto in “Scellerata” . Tra le leggende legate alle origini di Roma, quelle più “scellerate” riguardano proprio Lucio Tarquinio, detto il Superbo, che di quella donna era il marito, oltre a esserne stato in precedenza il cognato.
