MINORE D’ISABELLA di appena un anno, Beatrice d’Este parve per qualche tempo superare in tutto la sorella. Nel 1491 sposò Ludovico il Moro e divenne duchessa di Milano, dove Isabella la visitò spesso. Il prestigio della corte sforzesca le permetteva di esercitare con agio la sua influenza politica e culturale. Se la marchesa di Mantova dovette inseguire per anni Leonardo da Vinci per un ritratto, la duchessa di Milano poteva godere dei suoi servigi di pittore di corte. Come se non bastasse, mentre la sorella si struggeva in attesa di un erede, nel giro di quattro anni Beatrice partorì due maschietti, Ercole e Francesco. Ma nel 1497, a 21 anni, Beatrice morì di parto e lasciò il posto all’astro nascente della longeva Isabella.…
