La Gallia, mosaico di tribù

GIULIO CESARE DIVISE LA GALLIA in tre parti, diverse tra di loro per «lingua, costumi e leggi». La prima era l’Aquitania, che dalla Garonna «si estende fino alla catena dei monti Pirenei». La seconda era la parte occupata da «quelli che nella loro stessa lingua sono chiamati celti, nella nostra galli», limitata dalla Garonna e dal Rodano, il quale attraversa la regione «dalla parte dei sequani e degli elvezi». La terza corrispondeva invece al Paese dei belgi, che si estendeva «fino alla parte inferiore del Reno». Cesare considerava questi ultimi i popoli più temibili.…
