HENRY DUNANT nacque nel 1828 a Ginevra in una famiglia borghese calvinista. Non ebbe successo negli studi, ma mostrò fin da giovane una profonda vocazione religiosa. A 18 anni entrò nella Società delle elemosine di Ginevra, un’organizzazione caritatevole, e a 19 fondò un gruppo di studio biblico di grande popolarità. Promosse la formazione della sezione ginevrina dell’Associazione cristiana dei giovani e, anche se a partire dal 1853 si concentrò sullo sviluppo dei suoi affari in Algeria, l’inclinazione religiosa e la pratica della carità non lo abbandonarono mai.…
