SCIUSCIÀ (dall'americano shoeshine, lustrascarpe) è una creazione lessicale che all'indomani del Secondo conflitto mondiale designava i bambini e i ragazzi che si aggiravano ai bordi delle strade delle principali città italiane, prime fra tutte Roma e Napoli, per pulire e lucidare scarpe e stivali. Ma è pure il titolo del film del 1946 diretto da Vittorio De Sica che mostra l'amara realtà di un Paese devastato dalla guerra. Lo storico Bruno Maida dedica un saggio a quel mondo di macerie fisiche ed esistenziali in cui «camminano, giocano, lavorano, cercano di sopravvivere i molti bambini orfani, profughi e poveri che sono a loro volta un prodotto della guerra».
