UNA VOLTA il rabbino Solomon Schechter (nella foto sotto queste righe) avvertì: «Mi piacerebbe correggere un errore che a volte trovo in libri e in articoli, i quali mi descrivono come lo scopritore della geniza. Tutto ciò è errato. La geniza si è praticamente scoperta da sola». Il merito di Schechter consistette nel portare in salvo i documenti trasferendoli a Cambridge e nell'avviarne l'analisi, lavoro minuzioso che consisteva nell'esaminare ogni manoscritto per poi collocarlo negli schedari tematici (ovvero Bibbia, Talmud, storia, eccetera).…
