IN LOCALITÀ DEL VICINO ORIENTE E DELL'EGITTO come Ebla e Amarna sono stati ritrovati veri e propri archivi o biblioteche di tavolette in scrittura cuneiforme, contenenti una grande varietà di documenti: inventari commerciali, lettere, leggi eccetera. Le tavolette micenee, invece, sono di natura puramente economica e amministrativa, e contengono in sostanza elenchi di persone e beni redatti dalla burocrazia di palazzo nel corso della sua attività amministrativa. Questi documenti venivano gettati dopo l'uso. Quelli conservatisi risalgono all'ultimo periodo di attività dei palazzi; l'incendio che li ha distrutti ha cotto l'argilla delle tavolette permettendo loro di conservarsi sotto le macerie.…
