UN VOLTO DI QARYAT

UNA DELLE opere d'arte più enigmatiche di Qaryat al-Faw è un dipinto murale che raffigura un uomo con barba e capelli ricci e dallo sguardo profondo. Accanto a lui compaiono due piccole figure vestite con toghe in stile romano che gli offrono un melograno e un fiore, entrambi emblemi di vita eterna. È interessante notare che questa figura ha sul capo una ghirlanda di rose, simbolo di origine egizia che si ritrova nella decorazione di molti sarcofagi e in ritratti di epoca greca e romana. In questo caso è assai probabile che il ritratto rappresenti una persona defunta. Così fa supporre l'iscrizione a destra, zky, una benedizione scritta in alfabeto sudarabico.…
