Cavalieri orgogliosi dei loro colori

NEI TORNEI i cavalieri non impressionavano solo per il modo in cui maneggiavano le armi. Altrettanto notevole era la tenuta, che presentava i simboli o i colori araldici dei rispettivi casati. Gli elmi da parata avevano sontuose decorazioni, ma per combattere si usavano dei modelli più funzionali. Accanto a queste righe è raffigurato un cavaliere tedesco della metà del XVI secolo con una gabbia in cima all'elmo in cui si vede un gufo minacciato da un altro uccello. Il motivo, che compare anche sul mantello del cavallo, simboleggiava il fatto di essere pronti a combattere da soli contro tutti.…
