L’ALTISO RECINTO SACRO di Olimpia si sviluppava intorno al grande tempio di Zeus 1, e comprendeva i templi di Pelope 2 e di Era 3, oltre al Philippeion, un tolos eretto da Filippo di Macedonia 4, e 12 templi minori costruiti come offerta da varie città 5. Durante i giochi gli ospiti selezionati alloggiavano nel Leonidaion 6, mentre i visitatori potevano accedere solo alle stoa 7. Nel Bouleuterion 8 si riuniva la commissione di 50 elanodici che organizzava le competizioni. Le gare si svolgevano nello stadio 9.
