V Sarcofago di pietra

QUESTO SARCOFAGO apparteneva a Pa-Nehem-Isis, sacerdote di Amon-Ra morto all'inizio del periodo tolemaico. È stato ritrovato nella necropoli di Saqqara ed è ora esposto al Museo di storia dell'arte di Vienna. Scolpito in basalto, misura oltre due metri di lunghezza e ha la forma di una mummia, con la testa sovradimensionata, una tipologia che si ritrova fin dal Nuovo regno ma che si diffonde particolarmente nel Periodo tardo. IL PEZZO, molto ben conservato, spicca per le iscrizioni eccezionalmente numerose che ne decorano l'esterno sviluppando il mito secondo il quale Osiride, dopo essere stato ucciso dal fratello Seth, fu riportato in vita dalla sorella e moglie Iside e dall'altra sorella, Nefti. Nel suo passaggio all'oltretomba, il defunto s'identificava con Osiride e con il dio Sole, il cui viaggio notturno è raccontato…
