ANDORIAN ADVENTURER

Noah Averbach-Katz is really living the dream. As a kid, he worshipped Star Trek and attended conventions. Now, a couple of decades later, he's not only married to Discovery actress Mary Wiseman, but has guest starred as the Andorian, Ryn, in the Discovery episodes “Scavengers,” “The Sanctuary,” and “There Is A Tide…,” voiced the character of the Mirror Universe Andorian character Rae'Yeet for Star Trek Online, and even become a popular convention guest. Star Trek Explorer recently caught up with Averbach-Katz at a con, where he chatted about his love of Trek, Ryn's redemption arc, and the joy his mom is taking in his success.

“I LOVED THE IDEA OF A REDEMPTION ARC THAT DOESN'T END HOW YOU WANT IT TO END.” How deep was your love for Trek as a kid? My mom was a Trek fan. There were two rules in my house: my father said I couldn't be a Republican and my mother said I had to be a Trek fan. As long as I followed that, I was good to go. I grew up watching TNG reruns and Voyager's, final seasons. When I was 12 or 13, I watched Enterprise with my friends. We saw all the TNG movies. I went to UC Santa Cruz. I did a syndication vindication of “Time's Arrow” there. I played Riker and did the whole “throw my leg up over the chair” thing. There was a lull…
