I AM PECK

Ethan Peck's Star Trek journey is at four years and counting. As impossible, even illogical as it sounds, it's true. The news broke on August 14, 2018, that the actor had been cast as Spock, the foster brother of Michael Burnham, for the second season of Star Trek: Discovery. Peck slipped on his Vulcan ears and never looked back, playing the half-human/half-Vulcan character in Discovery, in the “Q&A” and “Ask Not” installments of Short Treks, and now on Strange New Worlds. Peck has done a virtuoso job of bringing to life a younger, not-yet-fully-formed Spock, yet a Spock who could evolve into Leonard Nimoy's iconic iteration of the character.

While production of season two of Strange New Worlds was still in session, Peck took a break from shooting to speak exclusively with Star Trek Explorer. Over the course of a half-hour, Peck looked back at his time on Discovery, addressed the challenges of playing a Spock who still evinces emotion, revealed how immersing himself in Spock has changed him, and shared what he'd ask Nimoy if he could talk to his predecessor. What were your expectations or hopes when all of this started with Discovery?
