You really have to feel sorry for dog owners who are fans of Star Trek. Aside from Livingston, Captain Jean Luc-Picard's lionfish, of the six recurring pets that have appeared to date in various shows, canines have definitely been outnumbered by cats. When you add up the many guest star felines and cameos, too, is it any wonder you might start thinking there's something odd going on? Something almost… sinister? Taking into account, also, that two memorable species, the Caitian and the Kzinti, both first seen in Star Trek: The Animated Series, have feline attributes, you'll have to forgive me for thinking that somehow, someone, initiated a conspiracy to put cats center stage in our favorite TV show… and it doesn't seem to show any sign of slowing down.
