A Family's Fate Barely a year old when the Romulans attacked the Khitomer Outpost in 2346, Kurn had been left in the care of his father's friend, Lorgh, so the Klingon High Command did not realize he had survived the massacre. With his parents dead and older brother Worf adopted by humans, Kurn became a member of Lorgh's family. Upon reaching the age of ascension, Kurn finally received the true story behind his upbringing. Kurn eventually joined the Klingon Defense Forces, demonstrating enough tactical prowess and ferocity to reach the rank of commander. When the opportunity arose for Klingons to participate in an exchange program and serve on Federation ships, Kurn requested that he be posted to the U.S.S.
