Saint Peter's Fiesta, illustrated with lively and colorful paintings, is the story of a 90-year-old tradition in the seaside community of Gloucester, Massachusetts. It is a story of families coming together every year to thank Saint Peter for keeping the fishermen safe.
In early June, families see the men arriving to set up the colorful outdoor altar and hang angels in the sky. The Ferris wheel appears. Families begin to prepare special foods. Women, men, and children attend the nine evenings of the novena, singing prayers in a Sicilian dialect, taught to them from their grandmothers. Excitement builds as the fishermen return home for this special celebration.
Become part of this weekend enjoying Saint Peter's Fiesta with the candle lit procession on Opening Night, experience the fun of the children's games like the egg toss and pie-eating contest. Break the piata, ride the Arctic Blast, or win a prize at a game. Then there is the outdoor Mass, Blessing of the Fleet, Seine Boat Races, and the famous Greasy Pole.
This is a story about a community which honors tradition, thankfulness, prayer, hospitality, and fun.
