St. Francis of Assisi 978-0-89942-286-2
One of 101 titles in the St. Joseph Picture Book Series, this book by beloved author Rev. Lawrence G. Lovasik, S.V.D. introduces Catholic children to the life and influence of the beloved Saint Francis of Assisi.
St. Francis of Assisi was born in Italy around the year 1181. When he was young, he lived a rich and comfortable life because his father was a wealthy cloth merchant. Francis loved to have fun, dress in fine clothes, and spend time with his friends. However, as he grew older, he started to feel like something was missing. One day, while praying in a small church, Francis heard God's voice telling him to repair His house. At first, Francis thought this meant fixing the old church building, so he sold his expensive things to get money for repairs. But later, he realized God was asking him to rebuild the church by living a life of love, kindness, and helping others.
Francis gave up his rich lifestyle and lived simply, wearing a rough robe and traveling around, preaching about God's love for all people, animals, and creation. He loved nature and saw all animals as his brothers and sisters. St. Clare became a follower of his 'little way' and St. Francis founded a religious order called the Franciscans who are still very active today.
