Broadcasters have pulled out a lot of gimmicks over the years in the name of innovation. How would Philo Farnsworth, the inventor of the TV, rate these?

A Puck That Made Us Want to Puke At the 1996 NHL All-Star Game, Fox unveiled what would become one of the most maligned inventions in TV history: the glowing puck. Infrared devices were inserted into the pucks that allowed them to show up better on screens. A hard shot would have a red tail, making it look like a stray shot from a stormtrooper’s blaster. Purists said it dumbed down the game, and they had a point. “I haven’t seen murkier bloodlines than this since the house of Plantagenet.” TRANSLATION: Miller was commenting on the fact that a Jets-Patriots game had many players who had been with both teams.
