In recent years, walking mindfully in the woods has been scientifically proven to lower blood pressure and boost immunity and mood. Many of us have known and experienced the healing and protective properties of trees for eons and continue to depend on our arboreal friends for physical and spiritual sustenance. Now, at last, it seems science is catching up! Trees feel almost human with their hair-like branches and torso trunks – ancestors in tree form almost. In fact, in ancient cultures they were seen as Divine communicators. Knocking on wood likely comes from the practice of knocking on a tree trunk to make a request to the in-dwelling deity.
