This golden fruit is associated with heavenly goodness and wisdom

Sweet, juicy apricots are in season in June. These orbs of tangy delight may be small in stature, but they pack plenty of flavour, possess excellent nutritional benefits, and have a rich history in folklore, too. According to Greek mythology, apricots were known as ‘golden apples’ and were said to bring eternal youth. They grew in the garden of the gods, where they were tended by three maidens known collectively as Hesperides, the ‘nymphs of the sunset’. The golden apples were guarded by a dragon named Ladon, who Hercules defeated to win the fruit as part of a quest.
