Meditate to make fewer mistakes

We’re all prone to forgetfulness and clumsiness from time to time, but new research shows 20 minutes of open monitoring meditation – a style of meditation that focuses awareness on emotions, thoughts or sensations as they happen – could help us all make fewer mistakes. Scientists at Michigan State University in the US tested 200 participants who had never meditated before. The researchers wanted to see how open monitoring meditation altered brain activity through electroen-cephalography, or EEG (a method that measures brain activity at the millisecond level). Participants then completed a computerised distraction test. The experts found that meditation enhanced the brain’s ability to detect and pay attention to mistakes.…
