Emotions are rarely black and white, so how do we manage the grey‘in between’ feelings?

Let’s be honest, emotions are complicated. There’s not just happy and sad, but a full spectrum of feelings we can experience, and the most confusing part is that a lot of the time we experience many of them all at once! We might feel sad when we leave a job, but excited about a new beginning; both anger and love when we decide to forgive a partner after an argument; and grief mixed with joy when a childhood memory is triggered. Having mixed feelings about something isn’t always valued in our society. Someone who knows what they feel, what they want, and how they’re going to get it, is praised as being driven and focused, whereas someone who’s always stuck between the different options is considered indecisive.
