Widely considered to be the most fascinating and mysterious crystal skull in existence, the most remarkable characteristics of the skull are its extraordinary clarity and detachable jaw, carved from the same piece of quartz as the rest. The skull was allegedly found in 1924 in the ruins of a Mayan pyramid in Lubaantun, Belize, by Anna Mitchell-Hedges, aged 17. As the opening was too small for the men on the expedition to get through, British adventurer and author F A Mitchell-Hedges asked for his daughter Anna, an adventurer in her own right, to be lowered into the hole to retrieve the find.
