El Dr. Jorge Salazar-Carrillo naci en La Habana, Cuba el 17 de enero de 1935. Casado con Mara Eugenia Winthrop (Mary Gene), tiene cuatro hijos y seis nietos. Obtuvo un Bachiller en Administracin de Negocios de la Universidad de Miami en 1958 y dej sus estudios de leyes al emigrar de Cuba en 1960. En EE.UU., obtuvo un Master, Certificado en Anlisis y Planificacin del Desarrollo y Doctorado en Economa de la Universidad de California (Berkeley).
Trabaj en instituciones prestigiosas como Brookings Institution (Senior Fellow, 1965-1979) y Georgetown University (Professorial Lecturer, 1969-1980). Fue asesor de la ONU y el Banco Interamericano de Desarrollo. En 1979, fue contratado por la Universidad Internacional de la Florida (FIU) para dirigir el Departamento de Economa y crear los programas de Master y Doctorado en Economa. Fue profesor de tiempo completo y Director del Centro de Investigacin Econmica en FIU.
Colabora frecuentemente con El Nuevo Herald y participa en programas polticos de radio y televisin en ingls y espaol. Ha publicado ms de 90 libros y cientos de artculos en revistas profesionales.

Dr. Jorge Salazar-Carrillo was born in Havana, Cuba on January 17, 1935. He is married to Mara Eugenia Winthrop (Mary Gene) and has four children and six grandchildren. He earned a Bachelor's in Business Administration from the University of Miami in 1958 and left his law studies when he emigrated from Cuba in 1960. In the U.S., he earned a Master's, a Certificate in Development Analysis and Planning, and a Doctorate in Economics from the University of California (Berkeley).
He worked at prestigious institutions such as the Brookings Institution (Senior Fellow, 1965-1979) and Georgetown University (Professorial Lecturer, 1969-1980). He was an advisor to the UN and the Inter-American Development Bank. In 1979, he was hired by Florida International University (FIU) to lead the Economics Department and create Master's and Doctorate programs in Economics. He was a full-time professor and Director of the Economic Research Center at FIU.
He frequently contributes to El Nuevo Herald and appears on political radio and TV programs in both English and Spanish. He has published over 90 books and hundreds of articles in professional journals.
