ENGLISH DESCRIPTION

The most electrifying crime novel in Spanish literature.

"Powerful, original, and addictive! A new voice with incredible strength, reminiscent of Dolores Redondo, Pierre Lemaitre, or Luca D'Andrea." -Sander Knol, editor of The Gypsy Bride in Holland

"In Madrid, people don't kill each other very much," young Deputy Inspector ngel Zrate's mentor on the police force told him; "but when they do, they are just as bad as any other city on earth," added Inspector Elena Blanco, head of the Case Analysis Brigade, a department created to solve the most complicated and heinous crimes.

Susana Macaya, daughter of a gypsy but raised as a non-gypsy, disappears after her bachelorette party. Her body is found two days later in the Vista Alegre House in the Carabanchel neighborhood of Madrid. It could be just one more murder, if it weren't for the fact that the victim was tortured following an unusual, atrocious ritual, and that her sister Lara suffered an identical fate seven years ago, also just before her wedding. Lara's killer has been locked up since then, so there are only two possibilities: either someone has imitated his methods for killing the younger sister, or an innocent man is in prison.

Therefore, Commissioner Rentero has decided to move Zrate off the case and hand it over to Blanco, the veteran: a peculiar, solitary woman, lover of grappa, karaoke, classic cars, and all-terrain sexual relations. A vulnerable policewoman, who stays on the force to remind herself that in her life there is one unsolved case that she has been unable to close.

Investigating someone implies getting to know them, discovering their secrets and contradictions, their history. In the case of Lara and Susana, Elena Blanco must immerse herself in the lives of some gypsies who have renounced their customs to become integrated in society, and others who will not forgive them for it. She must lift every veil to discover who could take vengeance on the two gypsy brides with such cruelty.
