In many vegan households, the last meat in the cupboards is in a can of dog food. As more and more people become vegan and look beyond their fridge at all the other ways that they can avoid animal exploitation, many will inevitably ask — ‘is there a vegan option for dogs?’. The answer is yes, and it’s not a new idea. It’s been possible to buy meat-free dog food in the UK since 1980, when the world’s first commercial vegan dog food was launched. Originally named Happidog, it still survives today as V-dog.
