In the summer of 1885 Watson ran into an old rugby pal, now a successful London businessman. The man unburdened himself of certain suspicions and soon he was before Mr. Sherlock Holmes. "Please tell me I'm seeing evil where there is none for I am at my wits end Mr. Holmes."
The person at the center of the man's suspicions proved to be the diminutive Lady Cecily Ingham, ne de la Haye, the Right Honorable Dowager Baroness of Mortmain and widow of the adventurer Sir Clarence Ingham. A partner in her husband's travels she'd completed a storm-tossed circumnavigation of the globe which included wintering in a native winter camp on the American Plains and crossing the Sierra Nevada mountains. She now held court from her palatial home near Canterbury, where the highborn heiress with a common touch had cultivated relationships far and wide.
"The female is the most deadly of the species Mr. Holmes," she said, over an particularly fine cup of Darjeeling.
"She is either exactly what she appears Watson, or she is the most cunning architect of evil we've thus encountered."
Holmes had his doubts at first, but the woman drew him into one of the most chilling cases in our long career.
"Come Watson, the game is afoot!"
The game is still afoot and only Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson can corner the evil mastermind and stop her murderous organization.
