SEE / SAW is a collection of poems, accompanied by ink drawings, that engage with themes of vision, myopia, and dream.
Artist and writer Suzy Sureck takes us into a childhood defined by myopia, helping us to understand how her personality and way of being in the world were boundaried by blur and intimacy of vision.
As her eyesight deteriorated to a focal range of 1", corrective lenses were no longer possible. As a change presented itself, she was both elated and terrified of this shift from what was familiar, though no longer tenable.
At the book's center, the title poem See Saw finds colorful ways to move forward despite conflicting emotions. Engagement with nature offers clarity, and the collection ends as a dream comes true - her ability to see unfettered in an aquatic world.
