“American have a peculiar interest in their ancestry.” This observation was shared by my wife – who grew up in the Philippines – during a recent conversation.
Until then, I had never really considered that Americans might be more interested in their ancestry than people from other corners of the world. However, after reflecting more on her statement, I think she might be right.
For as long as I can remember, I’ve been fascinated by my Scottish ancestry and the traditions of Scotland. Hanging on the wall of my grandmother’s staircase was a framed photo of my grandfather in full Scottish Highland dress. The photo captured my attention as a child. To me, he looked like he must have been Scottish royalty.
