You may have noticed our clan society pages at the back of the magazine each issue (see page 78) but do you know what a clan society is? The short answer is a clan society is a community of people with a shared connection to a Scottish clan or family. They vary in how they operate but they usually require a relatively modest annual fee for which you will get certain benefits – invites to gatherings, newsletters, information, talks, and more. In essence, it’s like finding your tribe and offers an overriding sense of belonging. Clan gatherings are wonderful events – designed to encourage people with a shared heritage to come together and celebrate and learn about the culture and customs of their ancestors.
