THIS MUCH I KNOW.” THOSE FIRST LINES IN THE TRAILER FOR CRIMSON PEAK ARE A BIT MISLEADING, because although Guillermo del Toro’s latest film features a cavernous spooky mansion rife with floating apparitions, vaporous spirits and other spectral activities, it’s not a haunted house movie. “We have to be very careful not to confuse a haunted house movie with gothic romance,” he explains in a phone interview leading up to the film’s October 16 release (from Universal). “Gothic romance is very much a separate genre, that if you go in expecting pure romance, you’re disappointed because there are a lot of dark and evil things in the tale.
