1970 FERRARI 512 S Coda Lunga

THE FERRARI 512 S is the Italian company’s Porsche 917. That was the idea anyway. It was built with a 550-hp 5.0-liter V-12 to take advantage of the same loophole that allowed the 917 into existence. Both companies built the requisite 25 examples, meaning they could run their creation as sports cars instead of as prototypes. That meant they could use larger engines. It was all a lie and one that wouldn’t last. But the results were spectacular. The problem for Ferrari was that it got a much later start than Porsche.
