THE PORSCHE 908 LH (Langheck) wasn’t the brand’s first longtail. The flat-eight-powered prototype came about midway through the company’s golden era of stretched racers, preceded by the 906 LH and 907 LH and followed by several versions of the 917 LH. But the 908 LH is the prettiest of the lot and the one that came closest to achieving the ultimate goal: winning the 24 Hours of Le Mans. Mechanical troubles put the 908 LH coupes out of contention in their inaugural year of 1968. Like the similarly designed 907 LH and 917 LH, the 908 LH was admirably fast, approaching 200 mph on the Mulsanne with a relatively modest 350 hp.
