Scott Smith is a self-taught Chrysler historian, keeping muscle-car culture alive, one carburetor at a time. A few decades ago, Smith set up Harms, a small shop behind his home in Spokane Valley, Washington, and earned a reputation in Mopar circles as the go-to guy to restore the Carter and Holley carburetors that Chrysler used during the heyday of the muscle-car era. Now, a couple of generations later, Smith is among the painstaking preservationists. Carburetors can be grimy and finicky. “There’s not a lot of people that like to mess with carburetors,” Smith says. “It’s kind of a mystery item to most people. They look at it, and it’s complicated.
