I’m currently enjoying myself hugely by playing with a 1971 BSA twin in The Shed. Nothing unusual there, except that I am endlessly surprised by how many New Old Stock parts are still around for them. Back when allegedly classic bikes were merely – and actually – just old bikes, and in my own case mainly old British bikes, finding spares was a steadily increasing problem. Why? Because the old industry was dead on its feet – sad but true – and dealers were switching from old marques to new ones. Those oil-soaked, smoke-filled emporia which had serviced the very large used bike sector were vanishing.
