Setting Up a Static IP Address

Setting up a static IP address comes with several advantages, the main one being you’ll always know what your Pi’s network address is – should you decide to operate it without a keyboard, mouse, or monitor. It’s easy to set up too, but it’s not a critical process.

DHCP RESERVATION Now that you’ve set up your Raspberry Pi and connected it to the network, you should take time to fix its IP address. This will make it a lot easier for you to connect to the Raspberry Pi from a Mac or Windows computer and share files. STEP 1 When you connect your Raspberry Pi to a network, the router (or modem/router) assigns it a number, known as its IP (Internet Protocol) address. This is a block of four digits and the first three are usually 192.168.0. After that is a digit for each electronic device.
