Rare shunter workings at East Lancs event

One of two surviving Class 01 diesel shunters (11506, later D2956) was in action at the East Lancashire Railway’s diesel event on September 13-14, alongside four other shunters (of Classes 03, ‘08’ and ’09) as well as 14 main line locomotives. The BR black ‘01’, which dates from 1956 and was one of only five such locomotives built by Andrew Barclay & Sons in Kilmarnock, was used with Class 03 D2062 for a couple of short-distance shuttle moves on each day, hauling the line’s immaculate Class 105 two-car Cravens diesel multiple unit.
