Crewe InterCity charity shoot raises more than £5,000

Locomotive Services Limited lined up six locomotives of five different types, all in InterCity colours, for a charity photo shoot at its Crewe depot on October 25 to commemorate 50 years of West Coast Main Line electrification. Taking part were 47828, 86101 Sir William A Stanier FRS, 87002 Royal Sovereign, 89001, 90001 Royal Scot, and 90002 Wolf of Badenoch. The northern section of the WCML was energised from May 1974, allowing electric traction to work throughout from Euston to Glasgow Central without the need to change to diesel power at Crewe. That resulted in a fleet of 50 Class 50 diesels progressively being transferred away from Crewe to the Western Region, while a fleet of 35 new Class 87 25kV AC locomotives were introduced from 1973 to supplement the fleet…
