In this issue, two successful solvers can read about the remarkable exploits of Dr Shirley Sherwood -the woman who, with her husband, restored and relaunched the vintage Orient Express train. After studying biology at Oxford, Dr Sherwood spent 12 years working as a research scientist, and she was a key member of the Nobel Prize-winning team which developed Tagamet, the first block-buster drug. At the age of 45, she left science to relaunch (with her husband Jim) the fabled Orient Express train. This was the beginning of a new career in the hotel and leisure business, culminating in the sale of the Orient Express Hotels (now Belmond), a 50-strong chain of five-star hotels, for $3.2 billion in 2019.
