Southbound platform takes shape at Darlington

Work is under way at Darlington to build a new southbound platform alongside the Up Goods Loop line. The new construction is visible in the background as TransPennine Express 802219 prepares to leave Darlington with June 27’s 1344 Newcastle-Liverpool Lime Street (left). This new Platform 5 will have a south- facing bay platform on its opposite face (Platform 6), to be used by trains to and from Saltburn which will no longer have to cross the East Coast Main Line to reach Darlington’s main trainshed (RAIL 1003). They will be linked to the main station concourse by a new footbridge running through the station’s eastern wall.…
