Landslip shuts line at Gobowen

Around 100 tonnes of spoil and debris fell onto the line during a landslip between Shrewsbury and Wrexham on January 4. The line was shut until January 8 while engineers cleared the landslip, which is thought to have been caused by excess groundwater. A Network Rail spokesman said: “The underlying geology can be considered an aquifer, and we had a particularly wet summer. The prolonged wet weather appears to have led to the slope degrading. “The slope was last inspected up to two years ago, when there was no movement or anything else that indicated concern. “As a temporary measure, we have put in barriers to prevent any further material from reaching the track.
