Uncertainty on Access for All plans

The government remains noncommittal on whether it will continue to fund the previous government’s Access for All (AfA) programme. The station improvements, funded by the Department for Transport, make it easier for wheelchair users and others with mobility issues and/or heavy luggage to use trains. On May 24, the Conservative government announced £350 million (from the cancellation of HS2 Phase 2) for 50 more stations to be upgraded under AfA. This was in addition to 73 stations it had announced in 2019 for Control Period 6 (CP6, 2019-24), although that figure included 27 stations that had already been deferred from CP5 (2014-19).
