Cheshire East Council has voted to ‘provisionally support’ the two rail schemes being proposed by the Manchester, Birmingham and Liverpool local authorities - if they are re-worked so that Crewe and Cheshire East benefit.
Councillors said at a meeting on December 13 that the elected mayors of the cities had “insulted’ the county by planning to build two major schemes in the county that didn’t directly benefit it.
The first scheme is the proposed Liverpool to Manchester railway section of Northern Powerhouse Rail, which has no direct connectivity for the Cheshire East.
The second is the Midlands to North West Rail Link, in which new services could potentially bypass the station.…
