Three Aboriginal girls are forcibly removed from their outback families in 1931 to be trained as domestic servants as part of official government policy. They escape and begin a 1500-mile journey home using a rabbit-proof fence as their guide, with the authorities chasing them all the way.
Winner of a NSW Premier's Award for Script Writing and a Community Relations Commission Award, the screenplay is adapted from Doris Pilkington Garimara's book Follow the Rabbit-Proof Fence, which is based on her mother's true story.
